VCAL CABINET MAKING

 Begin the first two years of Certificate III in Cabinet Making as part of a VCAL program.  Completion of all required units will reduce the educational component of an apprenticeship.  The training is mainly project based and gives industry relevant hands-on experience as an introduction to the diverse career opportunities in the Cabinet, Furniture Making and Joinery industries.

What we offer

The VCAL Cabinet making course incorporates Certificate III in Furniture Making (Cabinet Making)* and offers training to:

• Carry out measurements and calculations

• Prepare surfaces for finishing

• Use furniture making hand and power tools

• Assemble furnishing components

• Select and apply hardware

• Apply sheet laminates by hand

• Join solid timber

• Hand make timber joints

• Follow plans to assemble furniture

• Set up, operate and maintain static machines

• Construct chair and couch frames

• Fabricate custom furniture

• Prepare cutting lists from job specifications

*These units are indicative and are subject to change. This course is underpinned by industry standard Occupational Health and Safety work practices.  First-aid and Course in Construction Card (CIC) is part of all GTEC courses. The VCAL Cabinet Making course takes place at the Gordon where several trades can work around each other and occasionally at external community locations.
