Begin the first two years of Certificate III in General Construction (Carpentry) as part of a VCAL program.  Completion of all required units will reduce the educational component of an apprenticeship.  The training is mainly project based and gives industry relevant hands-on experience as an introduction to the diverse career opportunities in the Construction industry.

 

What we offer

The VCAL Carpentry course incorporates Certificate III in General Construction (Carpentry)* and offers training to:

  • Read and interpret plans
  • Carry out measurements and calculations
  • Use hand and power tools
  • Use small plant and equipment
  • Erect and dismantle scaffolding
  • Use simple levelling devices
  • Prepare for construction process
  • Assemble partition frames
  • Use explosive power tools
  • Carry out basic setting out
  • Construct and erect timber wall framing
  • Erect timber pitched roof framing
  • Install sub-floor framing
  • Install door frames

*These units are indicative and are subject to change.

This course is underpinned by industry standard Occupational Health and Safety work practices.  First Aid and Course in Construction Card (CIC) is part of all GTEC courses.

The VCAL Carpentry course takes place at the Gordon where several trades can work around each other and occasionally at external community locations.
