Certificate II in Applied Fashion Design & Technology underpins the Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology and will equip you with comprehensive skills, knowledge and design capabilities to work in the fashion industry. This course will increase your awareness of the complementary and integrated roles of design, pattern making, construction and associated technologies.

 

The course encourages you to develop, investigative and create skills related to the current and future directions of the fashion industry. On successful completion of the Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology students can continue with the Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design. Fashion course graduates can look forward to an exciting and rewarding career in the fashion industry. Career pathways include pattern engineering, quality assurance management, product development and design, design development, production development management and merchandising. Graduates may also look forward to working as a garment technician.

 

What we offer

The VCAL Applied Fashion Design & Technology Course incorporates  Certificate II in Applied Fashion Design & Technology * and offers training to:

  • Follow defined OH&S policies and procedures                                                                                
  • Identify fibres and fabrics                                                                                                                 
  • Draw a trade drawing for fashion design                                                                                          
  • Interact and network with fashion industry participants                                                                    
  • Develop product specifications for fashion design                                                                           
  • Apply design studio process                                                                                                             
  • Draw and interpret a basic sketch                                                                                                    
  • Develop patterns from a block using basic patternmaking principles                                              
  • Assist in preparation of preliminary design concepts                                                                       
  • Calculate cost estimates for fashion products                                                                                  
  • Cut fabrics for prototype designs                                                                                                      
  • Grade 2D patterns                                                                                                                            
  • Create pattern from block to meet customer specifications                                                            
  • Sew design prototypes                                                                                                                      
  • Source materials and resources for production of fashion designs                                                 
  • Drape fabrics to make patterns                                                                                                        
  • Manipulate fabrics to create new finishes                                                                                        
  • Develop merchandising plans for fashion products                                                                         
  • Apply design studio processes to meet client brief    
  • Operate computer technology in a TCF workplace

*These units are indicative and are subject to change.

This course takes place at the Boundary Road East Geelong Campus of the Gordon as well as at the City Campus (Fenwick St.) during “trade school” weeks allocated on the subject calendar.

How to apply

VCAL Certificate II in Applied Fashion Design & Technology is offered at GTEC, together with a variety of traditional trade certificates. Courses commence in February and study is full time. Applications are made directly to GTEC.
