The Certificate II in Printing and Graphic Arts (Desktop Publishing) will equip students with basic skills and knowledge to enter the desktop publishing industry. Students will use industry standard hardware and software to learn and practice skills required to prepare page layouts to meet job specifications.

 

This is an entry level course. It is anticipated graduates will be able to produce small publications, including office and school publications, from start to print. Graduates will also be able to meet current growth in industry for professionals in print/pre-press. Having an understanding of the design/print process also opens doors in the graphic design, brochure design, newsletters, press advertisement and image manipulation.

 

What we offer

The VCAL Printing & Graphic Arts Course incorporates Certificate II in Graphic Arts* and offers training to:

  • Inspect quality against required standards
  • Follow OH&S practices and identify environmental hazards
  • Communicate in the workplace
  • Access and use the internet
  • Develop a basic design concept
  • Select and apply type
  • Produce pages using a page layout application
  • Produce graphics using graphics applications
  • Capture a digital image
  • Scan a line image
  • Electronically combine and assemble data
  • Output images
  • Proof images
  • Produce a typographical image

*These units are indicative and are subject to change.
This course takes place at the Boundary Road East Geelong Campus of the Gordon as well as at the City Campus (Fenwick St.) during “trade school” weeks allocated on the subject calendar.
