The Certificate II in Hairdressing provides pre-vocational training for people with an interest in gaining an apprenticeship in the Hairdressing Industry or as a pathway to further studies in the Institutional Pathways Certificate III in Hairdressing course.

 

 
Certificate II in Hairdressing is suitable for school leavers wanting to enter the hairdressing industry.

 

What we offer

The VCAL Hairdressing Course incorporates Certificate II in Hairdressing* and offers training to:

  • Maintain tools and equipment                                                                        
  • Maintain and organise work areas                                                                 
  • Follow personal health and safety routines at work                                       
  • Apply safe working practices                                                                         
  • Prepare clients for salon services                                                                  
  • Perform head and shoulder massage                                                            
  • Develop hairdressing industry knowledge                                                     
  • Communicate in the workplace                                                                     
  • Work effectively in a retail environment                                                        
  • Dry hair to shape                                                                                            
  • Apply single, two and three strand braiding technique                                   
  • Apply temporary hair colour & remove residual colour products
  • Assist colleagues providing multiple salon services

*These units are indicative and are subject to change.
This course takes place at the Boundary Road East Geelong Campus of the Gordon as well as at the City Campus (Fenwick St.) during “trade school” weeks allocated on the subject calendar.

  • Certificate III in Hairdressing
  • Certificate IV in Hairdressing
  • Diploma of Hairdressing Salon Management ​
  • Certificate III > Work as a qualified Hairdresser after completing an apprenticeship or commence employment as a 3rd year equivalent  until completed 2000 hours of training.             
  • Certificate IV Advanced Senior Hairdressing Certificate
  • Diploma of Salon Management provides skills to manage a Hairdressing Salon or Beauty Therapy Salon either as an individual skill or additional to Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy Skills.​

 

How to apply

VCAL Certificate II in Hairdressing is offered at GTEC, together with a variety of traditional trade certificates. Courses commence in February and study is full time. Applications are made directly to GTEC.
