Studying at GTEC is a smart choice

The Geelong Technical Education Centre is a unique learning environment, purpose-designed for young adults who have not yet completed Year 11 or Year 12 or equivalent and who want to gain a qualification that will lead them to a job or further study. Studying at GTEC can fast track your career by obtaining your Year 11 or Year 12 VCAL and gain an entry level industry qualification.

 

GTEC offers:

  • Training in a multi-disciplinary environment

  • Teachers who are experienced, supportive and who have chosen to work with young adults

  • A unique learning environment where skills are applied in a simulated workplace

  • Quality education which means training at the highest level and recognised by employers

  • Each student is valued and treated as an individual with student support and wellbeing paramount

  • A range of activities that complements the learning and enhances the experience

  • Extensive work experience opportunities supported by industry Liaison Officers 

 

How to apply

VCAL is offered at GTEC, together with a variety of traditional trade certificates. Courses commence in February and July and study is full time.

 

Entrance requirements:

Prospective students must be aged between 16 and 19, Year 10 preferred for VCAL Intermediate (Year 11) and have completed Year 11 for VCAL Senior (Year 12).  Selection includes literacy, numeracy and mechanical reasoning evaluations and an interview.  Students must successfully complete the selection criteria. Applications are made directly to GTEC.

 

What does it cost to study at GTEC?

TAFE courses are subsidised by the government, so the most you will pay for full VCAL, Trade Training and Work Experience is approximately $1920. If you are eligible for a concession, the fee is approximately $900. (Materials and amenities fees are included.)
