Health Insurance is compulsory for all overseas students on a Student Visa. It is up to students to ensure that their health cover does not lapse during the period of their studies.

The Gordon Institute can arrange health cover for you. You will pay your health cover when you pay your first instalment of fees. Our current health cover provider is BUPA.  Single cover for 12 months is AUD$385.

If your spouse and/or children under 18 years of age are coming to live with you in Australia and you want the Institute to arrange cover for them please provide their details such as family name, first name, date of birth, gender and relationship on the Offer and Acceptance Agreement for International Students form.

What is covered by BUPA Australia OSHC?

OSHC covers hospital and medical services including Out of hospital medical services

  • Medical practitioners (including specialists) who treat you at the doctor's surgery, or at home

  • Pathology services such as blood tests

  • X-rays

Doctors

  • Direct Billing Doctors - Australia OSHC deals directly with the doctor’s surgery to pay for your treatment. 100% cover for medical services.

  • Some doctors may charge a co-payment and this co-payment cannot be claimed as a benefit as this is an administration fee charged by the doctor or practice.
  • General Doctors - At these doctors or services you will need to pay for the bill and then claim back your benefit from us either via the website, fax, mail or via one of our applicable branch outlets. You can claim 100% of the Medical Benefits Schedule (MBS) which means there could be a small gap payment for you to pay.

Public hospitals

OSHC covers shared ward accommodation in any public hospital, including treatment by your doctor. You only pay for the difference (if any) between the OSHC benefit for medical services and the actual MBS fee charged .OSHC will also cover charges for out patient medical treatment and allow you to claim 100% of the MBS as described above under non direct billing doctors.

Participating Private Hospitals

A Participating hospital is a hospital with which BUPA Australia Health has an agreement and there are a large number of private facilities throughout Australia that we have agreements with. If you choose to be treated in one of these facilities you will be fully covered for:

  • Hospital accommodation

  • Theatre fees

  • Intensive ward fees
