    ​ Kitjarra wurrun-ngeen "Our Talking House' is The Gordon's TAFE's Aboriginal Education Unit.
     

    "We acknowledge that we stand on traditional land -  Wathaurong / Wada Wurrung Country "

     

    Kitjarra wurrun-ngeen is a comfortable space where students and community are free to pop in for a yarn, participate in our programs and utilise our services to better their education and employment opportunities.

    As well as our specialist education program, Mumgu-dhal tyama tiyt ‘Message stick of knowledge’, we offer a range of student support services with each Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student studying at The Gordon eligible for 2 hours FREE tutoring per week.

    Student Support Services:

    • Administration assistance, course enquiries and enrolment

    • Information re: financial assistance schemes  (ABSTUDY)

    • Advocating on students’ behalf 

    • Confidential advice and referrals

    • Drop in area & kitchen facilities for breakfast and lunch

    • Links to community agencies e.g. Wathaurong Services & programs, Youth & Family Services 

    • Pathways into further/higher education and employment

    • One-on-one and group tutoring

    Keeping Up with Computers

    For: Community wanting to learn the basics

    • Basic computer skills

    • Keyboard techniques

    • Saving, storing and retrieving data

    • Producing and formatting specific file types

    • Program and application knowledge and operation

     

    Rural Fencing

    For: Men interested in cultural heritage and land management

    • Work safely with tools and equipment on site

    • Install, maintain & repair fencing/gates

    • Working with minimal impact (damage) on the environment

    • Learn about Aboriginal land management & culture

    • Working as a team
