Do cars, trucks and motorcycles really get your engine revving? Are you looking for a hands-on career where you can combine your love of engines with a qualification and varied employment opportunities? Then our automotive courses are a great place to start.

Our mechanical automotive courses will give you the skills and knowledge to work as a qualified mechanic on light vehicles, diesel engines or motorcycles. Our courses start at pre-apprenticeship level which lead to apprenticeships and traineeships, as well some post-trade courses.

Latest skills and technologies

As a student, you’ll learn the basics right through to emerging technologies such as the latest hybrid vehicles. Our industry connections with Ford, Mazda, Toyota and Bosch mean you’ll learn on both donated projects and cars for real clients. We also have the leading diagnostic equipment of any TAFE in Victoria, so you can be sure you’re getting the latest industry skills.

Profiles and Testimonials

I enjoy working on cars of any sort, and the pre-apprenticeship at The Gordon gave me the starting blocks to fulfil my passion. I learnt so many things I never knew, the teachers and students were great, and I really enjoyed all the new skills.

Just before I finished my pre-apprenticeship, I was offered a job at Geelong Mazda. It was a bit nerve racking, but the course gave me the confidence to take on anything. I’m now a full-time apprentice mechanic and love going to a job that I enjoy every day. I was the only female mechanic when I started, but they made me feel really welcome and part of the team.

I spend one week at The Gordon every 1-2 months for on-campus training, which is a nice change from the workplace. I can work at my own pace and the teachers are really helpful and knowledgeable.”
