Profiles and Testimonials

“I was volunteering with my local Karen refugee community at Werribee Park when I was offered a full-time horticulture apprenticeship. I am very passionate about the natural environment so this has been the perfect opportunity to start a career doing what I love.
Werribee Park is a very diverse environment so every day can be different, from working in formal gardens and landscaping, propagation and planting, tree work, vegetable gardens and nursery. It’s also a great environment to learn plant identification as there are so many varieties we work with.
I spend one day a week at The Gordon in Geelong and enjoy this balance of theory and practical. I’ve also had the opportunity to take on leadership roles at Werribee Park, overseeing volunteer groups and learning training and presentation skills. In the future, I would like to become a park ranger and continue my passion for nature and wildlife.”
