Course description

If you want to develop a career in the IT industry, love new technology and seek employment in Cyber Security – this is the course for you.

The course is a technician-level qualification providing graduates with a comprehensive set of technical skills enabling them to: 

  • Monitor the risk of Cyber Security attacks
  • Implement appropriate software
  • Use a range of tools and procedures to mitigate Cyber Security threats
  • Protect an organisation from insider security breaches
  • Develop systems to minimise network vulnerabilities and risks

Possible career outcomes

Graduates of the course will be able to seek employment as cyber security practitioners in a range of commercial enterprises/organisations and government bodies.

Additional attendance information

Classes Schedule:

  • Tuesday 9am to 3.30pm (on campus)
  • Wednesday 11am to 5pm (on campus)
  • Thursday 9am to 12.30 (on campus)
  • Friday 9am to 1pm (remote)

As a part of the course requirements students will need to provide:

  • Portable storage device- solid state drive min 500gig

Its highly recommended that students have internet access at home, access to a home computer or Laptop with a minimum of 16 RAM to undertake self-paced learning.

  • Applicants must be 17 years and over at the time of course commencement.
  • Applicants are expected to have literacy and numeracy skills at Year 11 or Year 12 or Australian Core Skills Framework Level 3.

  • Applicants must be 17 years of age or above and the Gordon recommends that applicants have either completed:
    • Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology
    • VETDSS program in Information, Digital Media and Technology
    • VCE provided they had completed VCE Information, Digital Media and Technology, Units 1-4


      Or demonstrated:

    • Minimum of 2 years experience in the ICT industry
  • Mature aged entry with significant work experience 
  • You must reside in Victoria to access Victorian Government Subsidised Fees and any incentive such as Free TAFE. Full fees apply to all non-Victorian residents.

Pre-training review

Each student must complete a pre-training review as part of their application. The outcome of your pre-training review assists our teachers and trainers to better understand your capabilities prior to training and enables you to be matched to the right program. Please note that the listed electives are delivered by The Gordon but you may not need to complete all of these units to successfully complete this qualification. If you have previously completed any of the units of competency relevant to this course, you may be eligible for Credit Transfer (CT).
