Awards Season

We’re always impressed by the efforts our Gordon students make every single day to their studies and training, to their extra curricula endeavours, in support of their peers and the contribution they make to their workplaces and communities. We’ve had a series of events over the last few weeks to highlight these outcomes.

Most excellent.

Our Gordon Awards for Excellence saw some of our best and brightest gain recognition for their notable achievements and sacrifices. We celebrated students who have been outstanding in Art & Design, Business & Technology, Community Services, Hair & Beauty, Health & Science, and Hospitality, Tourism & Events, as well as our International students, School Based Apprentices & Trainees, VCE and VET in School students.

Other students were distinguished with awards for their activity in supporting their community. These included awards for students of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, students who demonstrated a community spirit and who undertook lifelong learning. Our major awards were for both the Apprentice of the Year and Student of the Year, award to Dermott O’Connor and Mandy Dollery respectively.

A big thank you to the industry and community organisations and Geelong Connected Communities for their support that makes this event so special.

Done and dusted.

Nearly 300 Gordon graduates and their family and friends attended the graduation evening at Costa Hall. After much hard work and effort, these students were admitted their qualifications with all the pomp and ceremony such an occasion deserves. A wonderful evening celebrating hard work, tenacity and success. Congratulations to all our graduates of 2018!

A helping hand.

Scholarships make a difference. A big difference. When an opportunity appears it may seem out of reach for some, a scholarship can provide financial assistance and support to establish a platform for success in advancing their education.

At the Scholarship Presentation evening The Gordon presented scholarships and bursaries with values from $300 to $5,000 to 85 recipients. The Gordon awarded scholarships and bursaries to a total value of $110,000.

In 2018 there were 27 different scholarships available across a range categories with some awarded to up to 10 recipients. The categories include; open, age specific, course and industry specific, and access and equity.

“Without this financial support, so many students would be unable to gain a qualification that leads to improved opportunities. These resources will make a significant difference to their personal success. The funds are donated by a range of philanthropic businesses, organisations and individuals who have benefited from increasing the skills and training base - either as employers, advocates for positive social change, or personal achievements and success. On behalf of our recipients we would like to thank the incredible benefactors for their generous support,”

Lisa Line, The Gordon CEO.
