We launch the Give Where You Live Foundation’s Feed Geelong Appeal!

Bill Mithen and Joe Ormeno launch Feed Geelong AppealGive Where You Live Foundation is calling on the community to help fight hunger during the Feed Geelong Appeal.

To celebrate the commencement of the Appeal, The Gordon hosted an Afternoon Tea in the Social Café, part of the newly refurbished Culinary Precinct, with all proceeds going to the Feed Geelong Appeal.

“The Social Cafe within our Culinary Precinct was the perfect venue to set this inspiring appeal in motion. As a key sponsor, we are encouraging everyone to donate towards raising funds to support the 53,000 Geelong families who need food assistance by donating at www.feedgeelong.com.au,” said Joe Ormeno, CEO of The Gordon.

“We have seen firsthand the impact of rising costs upon our students and as an Institute we have advocated to implement measures that ease the pressure of these barriers for them. Yet we are acutely aware that these experiences extend well beyond the walls of our Campuses."

“Over the past two years, our culinary school initiated a Give Back program, preparing and delivering meals to individuals, families and food relief agencies across the region. We are grateful today to be able to extend our reach to help others receive three healthy meals each day through our valued partnership with the Give Where You Live Foundation’s Feed Geelong Appeal,”
shared Joe Ormeno.

Give Where You Live Foundation CEO, Bill Mithen said that funds raised during the Feed Geelong Appeal will help provide much needed support to food relief agencies across the region.

“This year’s Feed Geelong Appeal is more important than ever. With the increased cost of living and lingering impact of COVID-19 impacting food security across our region, the cost of groceries and living expenses has risen, along with the number of people in our community reaching out to food relief agencies for support with food assistance.”

“The increased demand is putting pressure on food relief agencies across the region who are working to make sure they have enough supplies to help those in need. Unfortunately, this year the Give Where You Live Foundation has only been able to fill 65 per cent of local requests for food vouchers.”

“Having access to an adequate supply of nutritious food is a human right. It doesn’t matter where you are. As a developed, prosperous city, we should all be working to change the food insecurity in our region to make sure no one in our community is left behind,”
said Bill Mithen.

You can also help raise awareness and funds by using the hashtag #FeedGeelong in all your Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn posts this week. For every hashtag, Goop Digital will donate $5 towards the Appeal.

The Gordon, along with Viva Energy Australia and The Mulberry Group, is also supporting #BrownPaperBagDay this Friday. When you donate your lunch or coffee money, we will double it! Join us in fighting hunger in our community.
