The Gordon to build state-of-the-art culinary facilities

Member for Geelong, Christine Couzens MP joined our Acting CEO, Joe Ormeno, members of The Gordon’s teaching teams and special guests from Geelong’s food service and hospitality industry to announce the Victorian Government’s commitment to fund the $23.5 million development of the new Gordon Culinary School and the southern aspect of the Geelong City Campus.
The Victorian Government committed $13.5 million towards the project in the recently announced 2019-20 Budget, with The Gordon contributing a further $10 million to the new facilities.
The new Gordon Culinary School will provide our students with a centre of excellence for cookery and hospitality training. The facilities will host the school and its training spaces, including the much-loved and culturally significant Davidson Restaurant, Jamie’s Ministry of Food (currently located at GTEC at the East Geelong Campus), a social enterprise café, and a new bakery training facility.
A wing will also be developed to house the newly established Centre for Design Excellence where students from different disciplines can work together.
This is an important step in transforming one of the oldest buildings in Geelong into a contemporary, state-of-the-art training facility. We love the Davidson Restaurant. It’s been a landmark for generations, and we want it to remain as relevant today and into the future as it has been for the last 130 years.
These developments will also see collaborations with social enterprises where The Gordon can positively support the community’s wellbeing.
With scoping and planning works to commence shortly, these new facilities will make the west end of Little Malop Street a key destination in central Geelong.
How exciting!
