“I had been working as a ministry leader and creative director in a large church in Melbourne for 10 years. Transitioning to the role of a Celebrant seemed like a natural progression for me and encapsulated my love of people and creativity.
I chose to study at The Gordon as they offered the most comprehensive course structure and they also deliver ongoing professional development for registered celebrants. It was obvious from the beginning that we were in very safe hands. The instructors were extremely professional, engaging and covered every aspect of being a celebrant. Not only did they comprehensively prepare us for the exam by the Attorney Generals department and application, but they covered every aspect of what it means to be a celebrant and run a small business.
As a celebrant, you definitely need a love for people, compassion, and an ability to listen. You need to be self-motivated and have some basic organisational skills, and also need to be a good communicator. For me, the most rewarding aspect is knowing that I have captured the essence of the couple or family that I am representing. Nothing makes me happier than executing a unique and memorable event.”

Certificate IV in Celebrancy
“Delivering a speech or saying goodbye to a loved one through a funeral service comes naturally to me, and to be part of a couple’s special day is something I’ve thought about doing for a long time. A friend recently told me she was getting married and wanted me to perform the ceremony…. so I signed up.
I looked at a number of organisations that delivered a Certificate IV in Celebrancy, and the reputation of The Gordon matched my vision and values. The teachers, Suzanne and Amanda were fabulous. They are experienced in their fields, willing to share their stories and knowledge, and support you on your journey. They were inspiring and motivating and I believe I will be a better celebrant thanks to them. I have already planned to complete my ongoing professional development at The Gordon, as I know I learned from the best.
I now plan on cutting back on my banking career, and spending more time supporting community members in a different way, whether that be marrying couples or sending loved ones off with a ceremony that fits them best. I look forward to being a part of special moments in people’s lives.”
