Electrical

Our electrical courses provide you with the skills and experience to prepare for work as a qualified electrician in domestic, commercial and industrial areas.

Combine your TAFE and industry training

Our apprenticeship program is an ElectroComms and Energy Utilities Industry Skills Council approved program, which means you'll learn the latest electrical industry requirements.

As an electrical apprentice, you get the best of both worlds; learning on-the-job from your employer as well as from our specialist trainers at TAFE. Our campuses at East Geelong and Hoppers Crossing (opening soon!) are home to world-class trade facilities with courses designed by industry bodies, to give you the latest skills and knowledge being used in your trade.

Get the edge before your apprenticeship

Our pre-apprenticeships program is a proven pathway to securing an apprenticeship and a great way to try out the electrical trade. You can also shave off some of your TAFE training time, once you start your full apprenticeship!

Scholarships available for Electrical students

Two scholarships are available for our electrical students; The Middy’s Scholarship - open to all pre-apprentice electrical students, and The Powercor Scholarship - open to female pre-apprentice students.

Profiles and Testimonials

“I am a qualified carpenter but decided to return to study my interest in electrotechnology. I am a Geelong local and completed a number of previous qualifications and licences here, so I feel right at home.

The facilities at The Gordon are excellent, and make my on-campus study really enjoyable. I work for MCG Cranes in Melbourne and we work on a variety of commercial sites each week.

The skills I’m learning at The Gordon support the work I do each day on-the-job, and broaden my knowledge in new areas.”

Hannah Terry and Luke Scott are making their mark on the electrical industry. In October 2016, the Gordon apprentices competed in and won gold in the WorldSkills national competition in the mechatronics category. They both credit their pre-apprenticeships at The Gordon for sparking their love of the electrical trade.

Hannah says…

“The Gordon is a great environment and I really value my teachers. They are wonderful to learn from and work with, have gone above and beyond and have really helped me achieve my goals. The key to a successful apprenticeship is having the right attitude, a passion and a willingness to learn and try your best.”

Luke says…

“The Gordon is a great place to learn. It doesn’t feel like school. Everyone is relaxed, the teachers treat you as an adult and relate to you on an experience basis. The Gordon has given me the resources and skills to travel in my job, and so far I have worked in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia in all different fields.”

Hannah and Luke are now preparing for international exposure in 2017 and the possibility of joining the Skillaroo team representing Australia in Abu Dhabi at the international WorldSkills competition.
