Are you from a non-English speaking background, and would like to improve your English and employment skills?
Our English as an Additional Language (EAL) program offers courses at various levels depending on your current level of English. Each program includes training in reading and writing, conversation, computer skills, employment skills, workplace skills, and Australian studies. Our English Language Unit offers flexible delivery of courses, counselling services, a library, and a language laboratory.
If you are aged between 17 and 24, we also offer a Youth Preparation for Further Study and Employment program. This intensive one-semester program focuses on English, numeracy and computer skills along with work placement opportunities.
There are currently no formal pathways to specific universities within this program area.
Visit our pathways to university page for more information on what you could be eligible for upon completion of a Gordon qualification.
"I am studying ELICOS as I need a good English level to pass the IELTS Examination. My brother-in-law recommended I study at The Gordon, as he had studied here.
I enjoy learning to speak English as I'm a sociable and talkative person, and the teachers have excellent experience teaching international students.
After I complete ELICOS, I plan to study an automotive course as I would like to work as a car technician and open a car workshop."

“I am originally from Karen in Burma. I left when I was 17 and spent 30 years in refugee camps. This is where I developed an interest in education and childcare, as I worked in the pre-schools there.
I arrived in Australia in 2014 and when I first started my English classes they were very difficult. Everything was so different, but the teachers were very understanding and patient, and really helped me. The classes didn’t just teach me English, but also the culture of living in Australia. All of the students were also encouraged to share their culture.
I am now more confident and am looking forward to continuing my studies in childcare. I hope my experience at The Gordon will also encourage others, and I hope to share all my new knowledge with my community.”
