Health, Pathology & Sterilisation

Health Services

If you are looking to enter the health sector and would like to gain hands-on experience in conjunction with class theory, our health service courses are ideal.  We offer a broad range of courses from aged care, to health services assistance and pathology.

Our learning approach gives you valuable practical experience, with all programs undertaken through both simulated and real workplace environments.

Work placement and industry experience

As a health student, you can take advantage of our network of professional industry partners including Barwon Health, St John of God Hospital and a range of private providers in the wider Geelong region.

Our aged care courses include 120 hours of work placement covering a range of environments and shifts, to ensure you have solid industry experience under your belt when you graduate. Our health services assistance course is delivered in partnership with Barwon Health, where you'll complete three weeks placement at University Hospital Geelong.

Traineeships may also be undertaken by those currently in the workplace and are offered across many of our health courses. If you are interested in doing a traineeship but are not working, register your interest with an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Provider here.

Profiles and Testimonials

“I believe the ageing community deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and it’s an industry I have wanted to work in for a long time. When looking to reskill there was no other place to consider.
The Gordon has a great reputation and the course is recognised nationally.
The group classroom environment was an enjoyable way to learn, and you didn’t feel like you were on your own. You were always aware of the support you had from staff and other students.
I’m currently working at Bupa Barrabool where I completed work placement, and I assist residents with their daily living activities. In this industry, you need people skills, patience, compassion and time management. The Gordon prepared me for exactly what I do daily and gave me the best chance to gain employment in my field.”

Kathy Carmody
Certificate III in Individual Support

“When we’re looking to hire staff, we’re looking for hard working, accountable and compassionate people that want to make a real difference to the lives and experiences of patients.
Students who do their training and placement in a medical environment are more confident as they experience a real hospital setting and real patients. With the training that The Gordon provides within Barwon Health and the skills gained in the Certificate III in Health Services, students are well prepared and equipped to provide an exceptional service.
The Gordon has a great track record of delivering quality trainees who learn from talented and experienced instructors.”
