Profiles and Testimonials

“With a fine arts background, I was keen to pursue a career in bringing characters/creatures to life and gain work as a make-up artist in the film or television industry.

The Gordon is a practical and fun place to study. The units are designed to give you quality hours of make-up experience, both within the studio and out on work placement. I’ve had the opportunity to experience a variety of avenues in the industry from photoshoots to theatre productions and short films.

The teachers have been the biggest influence, particularly Sue Brooks who is an inspiring and encouraging mentor. I have become free with my creativity, which has pushed my ideas of character make-up to a whole new level.”

“The Gordon gave me the opportunity to study something I was truly passionate about. I learnt real skills from very talented teachers who work in the industry, and who prepared me to gain employment as soon as I finished. I also got real experience through professional photo shoots. Winning the ‘White Shirt Project’ competition gave me the confidence to know I was ready to work as a make-up artist.

I am currently working as the counter manager for Tom Ford Beauty in Chadstone. I also have my own freelance make-up business 'Face By H'. In this industry, you need to be diligent as it is tough to get into. Good people skills are also very important, as you always work with different clients.

My  goal is to work as a makeup artist at New York Fashion Week and to have my work published in a magazine/advertisement. I believe in dreaming big to achieve big.”
