"I had always wanted to complete my VCE and apply to university for a degree in criminology and criminal justice. I approached my mum and asked if we could find a place that provided VCE in an adult learning environment. We found The Gordon!
I was so happy when school started and l made friends who were all similar to me and although only young, had experienced real life. My VCE group worked hard and formed friendships that allowed us to support each other and complete our VCE. The environment that the staff created was always supportive and welcoming. My teachers encouraged me to develop strong written communication skills as it is a skill l will need when l commence university.
I have now been accepted into Griffith University to study criminology. My career goal is to one day work for a justice related agency supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people."

VCE Year 12
“After finishing Year 10, I decided to leave school and complete my trade as a heavy vehicle diesel mechanic. After my apprenticeship and a year or so working as a qualified mechanic, I started feeling mediocre about my career.
Knowing I hadn't studied in almost six years, I looked into courses at The Gordon and found the VCE for mature-aged students. I thought this would be the perfect place to start, with the opportunity to test my abilities in a variety of study areas and time to think about my next step. The teachers at The Gordon are great. They're always full of encouragement and checking in to make sure everything is flowing smoothly.
My plan was to pick the class I enjoyed most, and at the end of the year continue on to further study in that field. So far, I’m loving the Outdoor Ed class and it has opened my eyes to a lot of things! To anyone considering returning to study I'd say go for it, you will never know your capabilities until you push yourself, and
furthering your education opens up a variety of avenues for you to look into.”
