“[The Gordon] have changed my life, my children’s lives, and hopefully the lives of my future clients wherever I may work.  It broke the cycle of disadvantage for our family, me being a third year generation welfare. I am so excited for what our future holds, and I cannot believe a few years ago I was slowly rebuilding after leaving family violence to being ready to be a strong worker. A statistic no more. The power of education.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. As I write this I’m even tearing up remembering every time I paid for something with the scholarship money, (at first I had a mini panic attack how I would pay for things and then remember that I had it) I would say a silent thank you every time for getting me through and getting the things I need. Its value? It was the thin line between giving up and wanting to give up when it got too tough - (as parents know, your children’s needs always comes before yours, but this scholarship money was for me). The value of this money to people who have no money is like breathing, when you have it you don’t even think about it or how it could be important but when you don’t have any or can’t breathe it is all you can think about! It took away my night time fears of how I was going to balance everything that seemed impossible. Thank you from 3 children who are so proud to tell everyone that “one day mummy will help someone.”

“Without this scholarship I wouldn’t have been able to finish my course and widen my work opportunities. I would have had to drop out and get a “go nowhere” job, but now I have the chance to be so much more. I never thought I’d be able to achieve so much in school, but now for the first time ever I look forward to my future in a career I’m passionate about.”

“The George Alexander Foundation Study Support Scholarship is a fantastic initiative, allowing students undertaking studies in a vast variety of fields to gain access to generous funds to assist them in their endeavours. I believe that making the scholarship available to such a broad range of individuals and study areas is what makes this program unique and successful, not just focusing on highly academic areas, but allowing people from all walks of life to access much need funds to assist them to achieve their goals.”

“I am so grateful to the support I have received from the Geelong Community Foundation this year. The scholarship they provided has allowed me to put more time aside for studies and take on extra placement opportunities. The eased financial burden made it possible for me to work less hours. I had less worry about day to day expenses with the scholarship money to help me out. I was also able to put the money towards books and tools such as a stethoscope.”
