NAIDOC Week at The Gordon

NAIDOC Week is held annually across Australia from 3 -10July. The theme for NAIDOC Week 2022 is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!- encouraging us all to amplify our voices and narrow the gap between aspiration and reality, good intent and outcome. We need to move beyond just acknowledgement, good intentions, empty words and promises, and hollow commitments. Enough is enough. 

At The Gordon, we continue NAIDOC Week celebrations into the next week when term starts, to enable both staff and students to join in. We hope to see you at the following events:
 

NAIDOC 3km Get Up! Stand Up! Show up! Walk

Join in The Gordon’s NAIDOC 3km Get Up! Stand Up! Show up! Walk as part of Clothing the Gap‘s virtual run. A light lunch will be provided afterwards. Please register your attendance as soon as possible. If you register early you will receive a tshirt and a medal once the walk has been completed.  Register online now!

When: Tuesday July 12, 11am-12pm

Where: Start and Finish at the Kitjarra Centre, City Campus (Building A)

 

NAIDOC Celebration

Join us at the Auditorium for The Gordon’s main NAIDOC celebration which includes a Welcome to Country from Traditional Owner Corinna Eccles, a talk from guest speaker Marsha Uphill and an announcement of the NAIDOC award recipients.    

Activities will the continue outside the Auditorium and in the library, with food, music, a photo booth and the launch of the art canvas that was created by staff and students for National Reconciliation Week.  

When: Wednesday 13 July, 12pm – 1pm

NAIDOC Awards  

Our NAIDOC Awards recognise the contribution and personal commitment of individuals and teams (both students and staff) in improving services and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It recognises those who have shown a genuine commitment to Get up! Stand up! Show up! and who have driven and led change in our communities over generations.   

There are three categories:  

  • Achievement:  recognizing individuals who have had a positive impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 
  • Commitment: recognizing individual who have personal commitment to improving educational support and/or services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 
  • Contribution: team award to recognize those teams who have a positive impact on educational support and/or services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
