Growing the Health and Community Services Workforce

   

Building capacity in the fast growing Community Services and Health sectors.

This is a school based program combining awareness raising initiatives with accredited courses to foster entry level pathways to employment in the Community Services and Health sectors – the fastest growing employment sector.

The Program is delivered by the Geelong Region Local Learning and Employment Network with a community inclusion element supporting students from a range of under-resourced backgrounds.

    • Certificate III in Community Services
    • Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance
    • Certificate III in Health Services Assistance
    • Certificate III in Laboratory Skills
    • Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care)
  • Awareness raising programs include:
    • Experience Community Services program
    • Year 10 Taster Program
    • School Leavers Program
    • Work experience at St John of God
    • Work experience at Barwon Health
    • Careers in Health Taster for students with a disability
  • The success of the program is due to the highly committed and networked stakeholders and delivery partners in the program:
    • 27 Secondary Schools
    • 41 employers supporting the School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships
    • 44 employers supporting the VET in Schools program
    • Over 50 industry partners providing invaluable in-kind support 

Highlights

  • Of those students undertaking accredited courses, the average completion rate is a highly creditable 87% which reflects not only the determination of the cohort but also the welfare support of the delivery agent and partner agencies
  • Over 1000 students will have enrolled in School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships and VET in School courses from 2015 to 2019 
  • Over 500 students have participated in non-accredited courses from 2014 to 2019
