A hands on opportunity leading to job outcomes

The Returnships program assists skilled people re-enter the workforce or explore new career opportunities. Supported by the Commonwealth Department of Employment and delivered by the Gordon’s Skills and Jobs Centre, the pilot program began in July 2017.

Since then 40 people in the Geelong region have completed a Returnship with a local employer for 112 hours over 3 to 6 weeks.
As a result, 20 of these people now have ongoing employment.

Participants include parents returning to work, mature aged workers, and some affected by retrenchment. The placement provides them with current experience, and a taste of what it’s like to work with a particular employer in an industry of interest.

Employers have embraced the program, recognising the value in providing opportunities to a skilled person to fill a short term workplace need, potentially leading to ongoing employment.
