Workforce Development Centre

Now the Geelong Skills and Jobs Centre

The Geelong Region Workforce Development Centre (WDC) was established by Skilling the Bay in 2014 in response to the major restructure of the manufacturing industries in Geelong and the impact on regional industries. During its operation, the WDC assisted more than 600 participants to plan and prepare for the next step in their career journey, with a 95% participant-reported satisfaction rate. More than 46% of people who accessed the WDC were retrenched workers seeking support to transition to new employment. The support provided to participants by the WDC included job search techniques, reviews of skills and capabilities, and providing awareness raising events of training options for new and existing industries in the Geelong region.

New Skills and Jobs Centre in 2016

In October 2015, the Victorian Government announced $1 million for the establishment of a Geelong Skills and Jobs Centre, with a satellite service in Wyndham. The existing Gordon-based Workforce Development Centre has now become part of the new facility. The centre resides in the Geelong Westfield shopping complex and was officially opened by the Minister for Skills and Training, The Hon Gayle Tierney MLC, on Thursday 1 December 2016.
