Passion leads to a career as a trainer

“The Gordon has allowed me to pursue my love and passion for my industry by way of making me a qualified Trainer and Assessor.” Jenny.

Jenny has spent 18 years developing her expertise as a carer in the Aged and Disability sector. Wanting to share her skills and knowledge with others looking to enter the industry, Jenny completed a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Having heard wonderful things about The Gordon, including from her own daughter who studied at The Gordon a number of years ago, Jenny claimed that the support network within The Gordon is amazing, from the moment you pick up the phone.

“The support you receive from your teachers is just a great experience. Everyone I have ever contacted has gone above and beyond in trying to help with any questions I have. Staff across the board are friendly and I felt I could ask them anything and they would take the time to explain things. And if they didn’t know the answer, they made every effort to find out what it is you need.”

Jenny loves her industry and agrees that compassion, empathy, patience, tolerance and good communication skills are a must.

“By this I mean listening, and not just hearing what your potential client has to say, an ability to be flexible with people in providing them what they need and not what you think they may need. To be able to advocate for your client when they feel they may not have a voice, or feel that they are not being listened to. But the most important thing is to have PASSION!”

Jenny finds the most rewarding aspect of her role is knowing she is making a difference in people’s lives, claiming the hugs and kisses from the kiddies is just awesome. As a sole trader, Jenny’s job involves working with children with special needs and providing respite to their parents/guardians.

Looking forward to undertaking a new chapter as a trainer, Jenny’s advice to anyone wanting to study is ‘JUST DO IT!’
