Course description

*At the completion of this VETDSS course students will gain a partial qualification only.

Are you currently attending secondary school and are passionate about working in the hair or beauty industries? Hair and beauty salon assistants perform routine tasks in hairdressing or beauty salons.

This course will teach you the skills you need to work in a busy hair salon or day spa. You will learn to communicate and prepare clients for services, shampooing and basin service techniques, basic hair styling, and product knowledge. When you complete the course, you may gain credit towards your VCE.

This course is an excellent way to start your career and prepare you for an Hairdressing Apprenticeship or Beauty Therapy Traineeship.

You can then go on to become a Hairdressing Apprentice and complete the SHB30416 Certificate III in Hairdressing qualification or a Beauty Therapist Trainee and complete the SHB40115 Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy qualification if you wish.

The Gordon is committed to ensuring all students have access to the educational and support services they may need while studying. We do this by carrying out a pretraining review that is integrated with the application and enrolment process. For most courses, this review also includes a short literacy and numeracy assessment relevant to the course. The outcomes of the pretraining review assist our teachers and trainers to better understand each student’s capabilities prior to training and enable all students to be matched to the right program for them.

Applicants are expected to have an appropriate literacy and numeracy level equivalent to the successful completion of year 9.
