Why is The Gordon a great option for your students?

The Gordon delivers a huge range of accredited vocational courses. Students benefit from hands-on learning, industry experienced teachers and working on real-life projects. We pride ourselves on delivering work ready graduates that have the skills and confidence to thrive in the workforce.
Many of our advanced qualifications provide pathways to university. TAFE students typically arrive at university with study credits and hands-on skills that put them ahead of their classmates.
 
Our School Liaison, Natasha Fridey is the first point of contact for careers advisors. She can provide course information to students through a range of activities, either in-school or on-campus at The Gordon.     Application Workshop For those students who have selected a course and are ready to apply today. Book an Application Workshops where our team can provide direct support.

    Career Quiz Activity An activity to give students an idea of the job roles they might seek out in their future career path.

    Campus Tours Guided tours of The Gordon campuses; allowing students to see individual areas of interest and receive information on courses offered in these areas. Tours will also cover student services and facilities available.

    Presentation An interactive overview of TAFE, The Gordon, and pathways to university. Presentations will be tailored to age group and area of interest. Requests for topics covered are welcome.

    The Gordon Race Students will compete in small teams to answer questions on a self-guided scavenger hunt around campus. Prizes will be provided for winners.

    Building Careers Geelong Site Tour An incredible opportunity for students interested in a future career in the building and construction industry. Students will visit real construction sites, both domestic and commercial, across Geelong. It’s a chance for students to meet like-minded apprentices and network with some of our most passionate industry professionals.

    Design Day The Gordon’s Design Day gives students to opportunity to participate in creative course tasters at The Gordon in their specific area of interest. Design Day is open to year 9 students interested in a future career in design and/or undertaking a VET in Schools program alongside VCE or VCAL studies.

    Girls' Big Day Out Girls' Big Day Out is an annual event that introduces girls to non-traditional career options in trades. The students will spend the day gaining hands on experience from specialist Gordon educators in a range of trade activities. Girls' Big Day Out is an invaluable tool for emphasising the importance of women in trades as well as raising awareness of the skills required and the many opportunities available for a successful future career.

    Digital Technologies Delivered by Skilling the Bay in collaboration with The Gordon ICT, this program will raise awareness for Year 9 & 10 students of digital technologies to support career-related pathways for the future. Students who have an interest in digital technologies will participate in 3 days, on-site at The Gordon's East Geelong Campus. The topics covered include: Introduction to Coding and Python; Keeping safe online (Cybersecurity) and The Internet Of Things.

    Geelong Tertiary Futures Program (GTFP) GTFP is an exciting initiative funded by Skilling the Bay that engages Year 9 students in education by providing an in-depth preview of a broad range of tertiary studies.

    Aims of the GTFP
    • To better equip Year 9 students to identify education and employment opportunities as they chart their future pathways
    • To improve students’ understanding that continuing education is essential for their future economic and employment aspirations and general wellbeing
    • To increase levels of educational attainment and school retention.
    Program format – over ten weeks students will
    • undertake a mix of blended online/classroom learning and complete two TAFE accredited units in Communication Skills and Workplace Health and Safety to build their employability skills
    • attend The Gordon City and East Campus for full days of immersion in TAFE education, participating in six Career Previews from approximately 30 different tertiary options.
