Entry requirements

  • Attending a secondary school.
  • Applicants are required to be aged 15 years and over.
  • Successful completion of Year 10 with the equivalent literacy and numeracy levels.
  • Review the personal learning requirements essential to this course and discuss with your school VET Coordinator before you apply.

You will learn

  • Explore community development, advocacy and the role community services play in creating positive social change.
  • Assess client needs and identify appropriate support strategies for individuals and groups.
  • Develop practical skills to support clients in a community services environment.
  • Build teamwork, communication and collaboration skills used across the community services sector.
  • Learn administrative practices that support effective community programs and services.

Course outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, you will receive:

  • Recognition of up to two VCE VET units at Units 1 and 2 level, and a VCE VET Units 3 and 4 sequence
  • ATAR contribution: If you undertake scored assessment, the study score can contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of your best four studies (the primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study increment 
  • A Statement of Attainment for the partial completion of Certificate III in Community Services. 

Course materials

  • Students will need to have access to and electronic device and reliable internet outside of classes to undertake self-paced work and assessments on Gordon online.
  • Exercise book / loose leaf paper/ Pens Grey lead pencil.

  • Observations and practical demonstrations
  • Portfolio (work samples)
  • Product (reports, projects, role plays etc)
