Entry requirements

  • Attending a secondary school.
  • Literacy and numeracy level equivalent to the successful completion of Year 10.

Course outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, you will receive:

  • Recognition of up to two VCE VET units at Units 1 and 2 level, and a VCE VET Units 3 and 4 sequence.
  • ATAR contribution: If you undertake scored assessment, the study score can contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of your best four studies (the primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study increment.
  • A Statement of Attainment for the partial completion of Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance.

Work placement/Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)

When placement arrangements have been confirmed, the student must provide their teacher with the details of their placement. A Gordon Assessor will visit the student and assess them in the workplace. There may be instances where students arrange SWL in a regulated children’s education and care service provider outside of the outlined structure. It is important to understand that any SWL undertaken before the conditions below are confirmed and approved by The Gordon teacher will not count toward fulfilling the mandatory work placement requirements for assessment purposes.


Duration & Structure

40 hours of Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) per year is recommended.

Students are encouraged to complete approximately 80 hours across the two-year program (40 hours in Year 1 and 40 hours in Year 2).

Location 

Students may undertake SWL within a range of health and community service settings, including:

  • Aged care facilities
  • Allied health services
  • Community service organisations
  • Health service environments and related support services

Placements are subject to availability and school arrangements.

Organised by

Structured Workplace Learning is organised by the student's home school in partnership with local industry and Local Learning and Employment Networks (LLENs). Students, schools and workplace hosts are responsible for completing required documentation. The Gordon supports and recognises SWL undertaken as part of the student's VETDSS pathway.

Additional requirements

  • Structured Workplace Learning is optional but strongly encouraged.
  • Students undertaking SWL must complete the VCAA Workplace Learning Record (WLR) and reflect on how their workplace experience relates to their VET studies.
  • Workplace participation is subject to school requirements, student pathways and host organisation requirements.
  • Students are encouraged to complete relevant workplace health and safety learning before commencing placement activities.
  • SWL supports students to apply knowledge and skills gained through classroom learning and simulated environments.
