CUA30720 VETDSS - Certificate III in Design Fundamentals (Graphic Design)

Course description

*At the completion of this VETDSS course students will gain a partial qualification only.

This course will provide you with core knowledge and skills to enhance your entry-level employment opportunities or further study prospects in the graphics world. Taught by industry experienced teachers, you will be introduced to a wide variety of drawing materials and techniques, producing finished design pieces using the Adobe suite of products, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and Premiere Pro.

Throughout the course, you will learn about design, create illustrations, both manually and digitally, explore page layout and typography, learn digital photography, video editing and how to apply colour to visual work. 
 
When you complete the course, you may gain credit towards your VCE. 

Work placement/industry experience

Work placement is strongly recommended within this program. This may occur during the term holidays. 

The sourcing of placement will be the joint responsibility of the secondary school, the student and the Local Learning and Employment Network.

Possible career outcomes

  • Entry-level employment in the graphic design industry
  • Employment in small or large printing and design businesses

The Gordon is committed to ensuring all students have access to the educational and support services they may need while studying. We do this by carrying out a pretraining review that is integrated with the application and enrolment process. For most courses, this review also includes a short literacy and numeracy assessment relevant to the course. The outcomes of the pretraining review assist our teachers and trainers to better understand each student’s capabilities prior to training and enable all students to be matched to the right program for them.

Applicants are expected to have an appropriate literacy and numeracy level equivalent to the successful completion of year 9.
