SBAT students must undertake at least seven hours of employment and six hours of training a week, which can be averaged over three periods of four months in each year of the course and Training Contract.
The Gordon will consult with your school for clarification of what constitutes ‘normal school hours and week’, to make sure the SBAT program satisfies structured training and employment requirements.
If the only time you can work as part of your apprenticeship or traineeship is outside of ‘normal school hours’ then you are permitted to work at such times, but must then complete at least one day of structured training per week during ‘normal school hours’ to fulfil the SBAT requirements.
Yes you can, but you will still have to do structured training on the day you had timetabled for your work placement.

Yes, however a second SBAT would need to follow on from the completion of the first one. They cannot be undertaken concurrently.
SBAT students would not typically undertake scored assessment in their SBAT qualification.
Contribution towards an ATAR would be a result of you achieving a Unit 3 and 4 sequence from your studies, which may provide a 10 per cent, 5th or 6th study increment.
If you would like to receive a study score from your SBAT qualification, you will need to complete Units 3 and 4 from the VCE VET scored program as a separate enrolment to your apprenticeship or traineeship.

- Be flexible and open to new approaches – the training is different to what you will be used to, and the teachers are the same as those who teach full-time apprentices
- You will need good communication skills
- Be willing to make new friends – students in the program will come from many schools in Geelong, Werribee and Colac/Otway regions
- Ensure you work out the balance of VCE study, your SBAT program, work attendance, sport and social commitments.
