Students shine at Scholarship Presentation

The George Alexander Foundation 2022 scholarship recipientsThe generosity of local businesses, individuals and charitable trusts has provided Gordon students with scholarships to support them through their studies.

Joe Ormeno, CEO of The Gordon stated, “We understand the life-changing and transformative impact education can have on young lives. Our commitment to unlocking the potential of our students through innovative, flexible education that empowers and supports students to learn, grow and thrive is greatly exhibited through our scholarship program.

“The generosity of our benefactors helps to ensure that education is accessible to everyone in our community, enabling students to achieve their study goals and realise their career ambitions.”

The Gordon’s 2022 Scholarship Program saw 38 scholarship recipients awarded more than $76,000 across four scholarship categories. The Open, Jump Start, Empowerment and Inspire Your Future scholarships support students with course related and basic living expenses.

Rebeca Mas, who studied a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment received one of six $5,000 scholarships from The George Alexander Foundation. The Foundation partners with higher education institutions across Australia to offer scholarships that recognise talent, leadership potential and commitment to the community.

“The scholarship was important in allowing me to complete two courses in a year. It was quite a challenge. Having that financial support allowed me to focus on my studies and still financially support myself” said Ms Mas. The Manager and Canine Behaviour and Enrichment Consultant at The Dog House Pet Resort has strong aspirations to teach animal studies in a TAFE environment.

The Honourable Susan Crennan AC KC, Governor of The George Alexander Foundation said, “George Alexander's early life experiences of hardship and a lack of education, then later in life, the support of a scholarship, meant he was very conscious of the barriers to pursuing educational opportunities and the benefits scholarships can bring to life. As a result, he was motivated to help others access opportunities to succeed.

“In partnership with The Gordon, The George Alexander Foundation continues its founder's ambition to support talented students to achieve their educational goals and fulfil their potential.”

Scholarships provided through the generous contributions received are valued between $200 and $5,000. To become a scholarship benefactor with The Gordon, contact Scholarships Support Officer Gemma MacMillan at gmacmillan@gordontafe.edu.au.
