A successful building and construction career starts with quality, hands-on learning. Our building design and construction management courses are highly regarded in the building industry and will connect you with employers.

The building design course prepares you for a career as a building designer, providing you with the practical skills, knowledge and qualifications to work in the residential and commercial design and construction sectors. This course also gives you a great edge if you’re planning to pathway to university.

As you learn about the presentation, documenting and architectural workflow process for building projects, you will explore techniques of freehand to digital design. You’ll build the right skills to communicate and work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including regulatory authorities and a wide range of consultants associated with the design, construction and building services.

You will also have the opportunity to work on real projects, gaining real experience. Our strong partnerships with organisations such as City of Greater Geelong give you the opportunity to work on live projects throughout the region. On completion you can register with the Building Practitioners Board in Victoria and work alongside and assist other building and design professionals at higher levels.

There are multiple directions you can take in the construction industry. Do you envision running your own construction business? Or working on large-scale, commercial projects? Student story

"I chose to pursue a career in the construction industry to be involved in an ever-growing and changing industry where there is a variety of work available including various pathways available after studies, and so many opportunities possible as more and more workplaces become diverse and inclusive. My working background is mostly reception/administration. The major reason why I found the construction industry so appealing is for the combination of both office work and working out in the field and on-site. After looking into possible job avenues I found that The Gordon offered a 12-month course that gave me the certification to get an entry-level job as a site supervisor or project manager."
