Course description

Are you aiming for a future in health but didn’t quite meet the entry requirements for your chosen course? The General Education for Adults (Health Stream) is designed to help you build a strong foundation in the core skills needed for success in further health-related study or employment. 

This course supports learners who want to improve their literacy, communication, and/or numeracy skills in a supportive and practical environment. You’ll engage in a variety of learning activities tailored to help you gain confidence and competence for your next steps into vocational training, further education, or the workforce.

Throughout the course, you will:

  • Strengthen your reading and writing skills, with a focus on health-related topics
  • Apply mathematical concepts including statistics, probability, and algebra 
  • Develop research skills using search engines and health-specific databases 
  • Plan and deliver presentations on relevant health issues 
  • Build effective teamwork and project skills through group activities · Learn how to communicate clearly and professionally in both written and spoken formats>
  • Enhance your digital literacy and confidence in online learning 
  • Develop organisation and time-management strategies to support your study goals 

By the end of the course, you’ll be equipped with the essential skills to confidently pathway into further study in health or related fields, or step into entry-level employment opportunities. Set yourself up for success with the General Education for Adults (Health Stream) – your first step into the world of health education. 

This course is designed as a pathway to Certificate IV and Diploma level studies in vocational education.

Entrance requirements

  • Applicants must be 17 years and over at the time of course commencement.  
  • Applicants are expected to have literacy and numeracy skills at Year 11 or Year 12 or Australian Core Skills Framework Level 3.
  • You must reside in Victoria to access Victorian Government Subsidised Fees and any incentive such as Free TAFE. Full fees apply to all non-Victorian residents.

Please note that the listed electives are delivered by The Gordon but you may not need to complete all of these units to successfully complete this qualification. If you have previously completed any of the units of competency relevant to this course, you may be eligible for Credit Transfer (CT).
