Course description

If you are ready to take the next step and become a room leader, this course is for you. You will gain the skills and qualifications to confidently and effectively work in the early education sector, allowing you to positively impact our future generations. The program will enable you to develop skills to design, implement and evaluate early childhood education programs whilst caring for and supporting children’s learning in their most formative years. It is preferred that Applicants work in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care Centre of Kindergarten for a minimum of 15 hours per week. However, this is not compulsory. 

Technology Requirements 

As this course is delivered through a blended model, including facilitated online sessions each week, students must ensure they have the resources and skills to successfully access, engage with, and complete their studies. To participate fully, students will need: · Regular access to a device with internet capability (a laptop or tablet is recommended). If you don’t have your own device or internet, please contact us to discuss access to resources at The Gordon. · Reliable internet access to join online sessions, access learning materials, and submit assessments. · The ability to communicate with teachers and peers through the online learning platform.

Duration & Structure

Students must complete a minimum of 280 hours of placement.
 It is a requirement of this program that students are working a minimum of 15 hours a week in a registered early learning care setting.

Students MUST;
• Provide a current Working with Children Check.
• Provide evidence of a First Aid qualification.
• Provide proof of the immunisations as per their workplace.

Additional Information 

*Placement is not paid work, and student will not receive payment for undertaking practical placement.

Entrance requirements

  • Applicants must be 17 years and over at the time of course commencement.
  • Applicants are expected to have literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to Australian Core Skills Framework Level 3 to meet the academic requirements for the course.
    • Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who hold: CHC30121 or CHC30113 – Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
  • Alternatively, individuals may hold:
    • An Australian diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care. 
      Or
    • An Australian diploma or certificate III in Children’s Services AND · Demonstrate at least 12 months of cumulative employment (full-time equivalent) within the last 5 years in a regulated education and care service in Australia, supported by verifiable evidence.
      Or
    • Hold the CHCSS00147 Entry into Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
  • A current Working with Children Check and may be required to have vaccinations depending on placement requirements.
  • It is preferred that Applicants work in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care Centre of Kindergarten for a minimum of 15 hours per week, however this is not compulsory.
  • You must reside in Victoria to access Victorian Government Subsidised Fees and any incentive such as Free TAFE. Full fees apply to all non-Victorian residents.

Digital Requirements: 

To successfully participate, learners must: 

  • Have access to a computer or laptop with a reliable broadband or satellite internet connection. 
  • Use a microphone, speakers or headset, and a webcam for interactive learning. 
  • Possess sufficient digital literacy skills to: 
  • Navigate online resources and the simulated workplace environment. 
  • Submit assessment tasks electronically.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers via email, the student portal, and the Learning Management System (LMS).

Apprenticeship and traineeship requirements

Apprenticeship and traineeship applicants must be currently employed under a training contract and referred by their employer.

Pre-training review

Each student must complete a pre-training review as part of their application. The outcome of your pre-training review assists our teachers and trainers to better understand your capabilities prior to training and enables you to be matched to the right program. If you have previously completed any of the units of competency relevant to this course, you may be eligible for Credit Transfer (CT). This course is eligible for Free TAFE!
