Course description

The Construction Induction Card allows you to legally enter construction and building sites from employer to employee, equipped with the essential safety knowledge required on-site. This course is endorsed by and meets the requirements of WorkSafe Victoria relating to OHS induction training in the building and construction industry.

The purpose of this course is to take learners through a general WHS induction. This induction is required to enable learners to work on a construction site in Australia.

Learners are instructed in

  • Work health and safety responsibilities and legislative requirements 
  • Identifying and controlling construction site hazards and risks 
  • Responding to & reporting to accidents and incidents 
  • What measures should be taken to reduce the risk of accident or injury 
  • How to correctly respond to a workplace incident / emergency
  • Selection and fitting of common personal protective equipment

All delivery is face to face in a classroom situation inclusive of a site walk / inspection. There are no online components.

Pre-Requisites and additional attendance information

Photo ID must be presented to the instructor on the day.

Participants must have strong English language skills (spoken and written) to complete all aspects of the training (without assistance); translation devices are not allowed. This is to ensure that you have the necessary competencies to work safely in the construction industry.

Numeracy skills to:
  • locate and recognise numbers commonly used in safety signs.
Oral communication skills to:
  • ask questions to clarify instructions
  • listen to instructions to identify key safety information
  • tell another person about a construction problem or hazard.
Reading skills to:
  • follow pictorial safety instructions
  • follow safety instructions that are written in English.
Problem-solving skills to:
  • select risk control measures.
Written skills to:
  • complete a compliant form.

What you will receive

On the successful completion of the Unit of Competency, the Gordon issues a Statement of Attainment via MyeQuals and applies on the student’s behalf to WorkSafe Victoria for the issuing of the CIC.
