Landscaping is a winner for Sebastian
It has been an award-winning year for landscaping student Sebastian Streat who has been celebrated as the joint winner of the School-based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year at the Apprentice Employment Network (AEN) and Global Apprentice Network (GAN) Australia 2022 Apprentice Training Awards.
Sebastian completed a Certificate II in Landscaping with the Gordon and Ballarat Group Training as part of his School-based Apprenticeship.
“It was like the real world, being out and working. I made some new friends, and the teachers were wonderful. I learnt a lot and achieved many things I never thought I would. I’m now hoping I can now get an apprenticeship,” shared Sebastian.
Nominated by Ballarat Group Training, Sebastian is highly regarded by his trainers.
“We were delighted with the announcement that Sebastian was a winner at the AEN Awards. Sebastian was a standout student from day one. He was initially quite shy and reserved, but soon came out of his shell and displayed a faultless work ethic,” said landscaping teacher John Tucker.
Residing in Daylesford, Sebastian is keen to secure an apprenticeship with Hepburn Council.
“Sebastian has used his knowledge gained through this course and mows several families and friends’ lawns as well as doing other handyman tasks around his home area,” continued John.
Gary Workman, Executive Director of GAN Australia and the AEN said, “Despite industry disruption, the outstanding skill and commitment the nominees have displayed to their vocational skills and career is commendable. It is fantastic to celebrate their passion, resilience and hard work as they build employability skills and move into jobs with long-term career prospects."
The Inspiration Award: School-based Apprenticeship or Trainee of the Year recognises Victorian students that are undertaking a Cert II or higher qualification as a School-based Apprentice/Trainee and their commitment to their studies in school and at the workplace.
