The Gordon celebrated 47 scholarship recipients at their annual presentation evening, hosted by GMHBA last night. An exceptional evening to recognise the wonderful contributions of all scholarship benefactors and the impacts their financial assistance has on The Gordon’s student community.
Joe Ormeno, CEO of The Gordon, stated, “We understand the life-changing and transformative impact education can have on young lives - that it can enable people to meet life’s challenges and surpass expectations. We know, too, the opportunities that The Gordon can offer – Vocational Education and Training is one of the key pillars of Australia’s economic success story”.
“To our benefactors, your generosity will help to ensure that an excellent education is more accessible to everyone in our community. Success for each scholarship student will be success for us all as they go on to contribute to our community’s future”.
The Gordon’s 2023 Scholarship Program saw 47 scholarship recipients awarded more than $92,000 across four scholarship categories. The Open, Jump Start, Empowerment and Inspire Your Future scholarships support students with course related and basic living expenses.
Katrin Reed, who studied a Diploma of Nursing received one of two $2,500 scholarships from the Ted Dimmick Charitable Trust. These scholarships who demonstrated initiative and commitment to succeed in their studies.
“I always thought that I would love the nursing profession and The Gordon has provided so many opportunities for progression in my studies & have actively provided an entry path into the nursing profession. My professional goals in the future are to go on to work within the prison system offering health services on a multitude of levels to those incarcerated”.
“The scholarship I am being presented not only provides support for myself in regards to meeting all of my current and future goals, but it means that I have access to extra funds to assist in providing extra opportunities to my children and encouraging them to meet all their own goals and chase their own dreams.”
Cheryl Linford Programme Reporter for Soroptimist International of Geelong said “ It was a pleasure to be invited to and participate in The Gordon’s 2023 Scholarship Presentation Evening. It is a wonderful event that showcases the support the community has for education. Once again it was a pleasure to assist in supporting students and to meet the scholarship recipients in person “.
“Soroptimists are committed to a world where women and girls achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in communities worldwide and Soroptimist International is driven by its mission of transforming lives through education, empowerment and by enabling opportunities”.
