Calling First Nations Artists

Artwork for The Gordon’s Centre of Excellence in Disability Inclusion  

The Gordon is seeking Expressions of Interest from First Nations artists to create a commissioned artwork for the First Peoples spaces within the currently under-construction Centre of Excellence in Disability Inclusion at The Gordon’s Geelong City campus. 

The artwork will reflect The Gordon's commitment to inclusion, cultural safety, truth-telling and strong relationships with First Nations Peoples. It will be displayed in the Centre's First Nations office, with elements featured throughout the wider Centre of Excellence and across digital and printed materials. 

The Gordon welcomes applications from emerging and established First Nations artists, with artists from Wadawurrung Country and artists with lived experience of disability strongly encouraged to apply. 

Artists are asked to submit: 

• A short artist biography including your cultural background/connection to Country (written or verbal). 
• Examples of previous work (portfolio or website link). 
• A brief outline of your proposed concept, its application and what inclusion means to you. 
• Your contact details. 

The successful artist will be paid in line with National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) artist rates. The artwork must be an original piece created specifically for this project and follow appropriate cultural protocols. 

Submissions will be assessed on cultural authenticity, artistic merit, alignment with The Gordon's vision and the ability to deliver within budget and timeframe. 

This is an opportunity to create a meaningful and lasting artwork that celebrates inclusion, community, learning and respect.
