What does International Women's Day mean to you?

International Women's Day to me is a great chance to acknowledge and reflect on achievements of women, along with reflecting on a huge range of changes and advancements that have occurred in today's society. It's also a perfect time to think about gender stereotypes and gender imbalances that still exist and to also acknowledge the improvements that have occurred in those spaces. To me, IWD is about creating a space for conversations to be had and to listen to the voices of women in the community.

What does gender equality mean to you?

Gender equality to me is about removing barriers and creating equal access and equal opportunities for individuals of all genders - whether that be in workplaces, study environments (such as here at The Gordon), home or the community.

How do you stand up for others or challenge gender stereotypes?

Speaking out, standing up for others and calling out behaviours and comments both around me and in the community is so important. Ensuring the voices of those close to me and in the broader community are heard, having conversations with those around me and speaking up for others are just some ways I stand up for others and challenge gender stereotypes. I also try and create as safe of an environment for others around me as I can, ensuring they feel like they can talk to me if they are facing any challenges.

In what ways has The Gordon supported gender equality for you?

The Gordon has provided equal opportunities for myself and other students to attend events, speak and provide feedback on a variety of different things going on in and around The Gordon. They have provided me a space to have my voice heard which is something hugely important for challenging gender stereotypes and inequalities!
