To mark International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026, we are proud to share the voices of five women from across our community. Aligned with this year’s theme, ‘Balance the Scales’, this feature brings together the voices of students and staff members to highlight diverse perspectives on gender equality by answering four questions. Through their outlooks, we celebrate how The Gordon is creating an inclusive environment where women are supported to feel safe, heard and empowered to shape their own futures and those around them.
International Women's Day to me is a great chance to acknowledge and reflect on achievements of women, along with reflecting on a huge range of changes and advancements that have occurred in today's society.
Gender equality means everyone should have the same rights, respect and opportunities, no matter the gender. We should all have the same chances for success!
Challenging stereotypes often happens in small ways. I aim to create safe spaces where women feel comfortable to speak up, share their perspectives and recognise their own potential.
In my role, I am committed to championing opportunities for women in trades and traditionally male-dominated industries. This includes challenging outdated assumptions about who “belongs” in these spaces and actively supporting women to see themselves as capable, skilled and valued contributors.
The Gordon has supported gender equality for me in both practical and cultural ways. I’ve seen a clear organisational commitment to creating environments where women feel safe, respected and able to lead authentically.
