What is happening in the coming weeks

Noise from demolition is expected over the next fortnight, with works focused on the following areas:

  • Demolition of Rainbow Stairs (opposite Customer Service)
  • G Building, Level 2 (above the cafeteria): Concrete cutting and removal works will be undertaken to prepare for the new lift and stair voids.
  • G Building: Construction will commence on the new stairwell located near Customer Service and the Level 2 nursing teaching spaces.

While the completed Gordon’s Centre of Excellence in Disability Inclusion will bring state-of-the-art facilities, we recognise that working alongside the construction is not without its challenges. We sincerely thank you for your continued patience throughout these works. We understand that access routes have changed significantly, and that construction noise has at times impacted nearby classrooms. The Timetabling team continues to support staff by identifying alternative spaces wherever possible.

Important reminders

  • Please follow all safety signage and avoid entering construction zones at any time.
  • Always check your timetable for room changes and allow extra time to move between classes.
  • A limited number of noise-cancelling headphone are available for day loan from the library.
  • Parts of Buildings G and H including rooms and walkways remain closed. Follow updated signage to find your way across campus.

Food outlets and informal spaces during renovations

A range of temporary outlets and informal spaces are available to go to eat, study, relax and stay connected. Service offerings may be adjusted as works continue. We will continue to share updates as they become available. All student services remain available.

The Finished Vision: The Centre of Excellence in Disability Inclusion

We appreciate everyone’s patience as works continue. While some disruption is unavoidable, each step brings us closer to the end result, and that result is something special: Victoria’s first Centre of Excellence in Disability Inclusion across the TAFE sector, right here at The Gordon.

Construction will run through 2026–27, and while there will be some significant but essential changes on campus, all services will remain available. If you need support or have questions, please contact Customer Service. Once complete, the COE will deliver a more accessible and inclusive campus experience, including:

  • Step and ramp-free navigation through the campus.
  • Clear, simple, icon-based signage supplemented by text and braille.
  • Cafe and dining zones with clear circulation, flexible seating, and wheelchair-accessible tables.
  • Warm, welcoming colours and materials and acoustic treatments (sound‑absorbing panels, floors, and ceilings) to help reduce sensory overwhelm.
