State award for Gordon painting apprentice

Damien Robinson - Painting and decorating student - Apprentice of the Year, Master Painters' Association 2021 AwardsGordon student Damien Robinson has received top honours at the recent Master Painters’ Association of Victoria and Tasmania awards.

Damien, who recently completed a Certificate III in Painting and Decorating at The Gordon was awarded the best fourth year Apprentice of the Year at the dual state awards.

The annual awards recognise the highest standards of craftsmanship across domestic, commercial and heritage projects from individuals and businesses across Victoria and Tasmania.

Damien, who has always wanted to be a painter, was surprised at the announcement of his win.

“I was very shocked and grateful to have received this award. I have always tried to be the best painter that I can be and to know that it was seen and acknowledged by others was a great feeling and very overwhelming”, shared Damien.

Paul Webb, Gordon painting and decorating teacher nominated Damien after he showed natural leadership capabilities and a deep passion for his trade.

“Damien has always had a willingness to learn and develop his skills. His drive and ambition and desire to take on challenges saw him connecting with his peers and assisting them with their training”, said Paul.
    
Employer Chris Young of Chris Young Painting was both honoured and excited for his young apprentice’s outstanding achievement.

“When Damien was announced Apprentice of the Year, I was extremely proud. Damien is a huge asset to our company. His eagerness and willingness to expand his knowledge of the trade is a credit to him and his ability to run jobs and teach other apprentices just goes to show why he earned the nomination”, said Chris.
