What can I study?

Most people just think of building trades when they think of apprenticeships, but you can do apprenticeships in many areas including hairdressing and cookery. The Gordon works with apprentices and trainees across a broad range of industries, and a variety of qualification levels from Certificate II to Diploma.

School-based Apprenticeships

If you’d like to get a head start on your apprenticeship while remaining at secondary school, you might consider a School-based Apprenticeship. These can be undertaken in any apprenticeship field; as long as you have a business to employ you and your school provides the relevant consent and support.  Generally you will need to be 16 years of age and have completed Year 10 to be a school-based apprentice.

The Geelong Technical Education Centre (GTEC) also offers a unique program for Year 11-12 students combining VCAL, trade training and real work experience leading to apprenticeship opportunities.
