Today, Aleah works as a Support Coordinator with Access Your Supports (AYS) after completing a placement arranged through The Gordon's Community Services program, gaining valuable hands-on experience and industry connections along the way.
Through the program, students combine classroom learning with practical industry experience, undertaking placements with local organisations where they can apply their skills in real-world settings and build professional networks.

Aleah said the experience helped her grow both personally and professionally.
The placement team supported me in securing the correct placement and encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone, while still matching me with an opportunity that suited my skills and experience. Looking back, I think they could see my potential and where I would thrive before I could fully see it myself.
Aleah's placement not only strengthened her confidence and industry knowledge but ultimately led to employment.
As demand for skilled workers across the community services sector continues to grow, practical experience is becoming increasingly important for students preparing to enter the workforce.
Laura Jordan, The Gordon's Work Placement Liaison Officer, said placements provide an opportunity for students to develop industry-ready skills while building valuable professional connections.
"We work closely with students and teachers to allocate students to the best-fit opportunities available," Laura said.
"Through this process, we see successful outcomes where students feel supported and engaged, while gaining valuable opportunities including references, ongoing volunteering and employment."
The Gordon's strong partnerships with local employers play an important role in creating those outcomes. Students also have the opportunity to expand their networks through The Gordon's annual Community Services Expo, which connects students and jobseekers with employers from across the sector.

Michael Menchise, Business Development Manager at Access Your Supports, said placements deliver benefits for both students and organisations.
"Partnerships like ours give students valuable real-world experience, helping them build confidence, practical skills and an understanding of workplace expectations," Michael said.
They also create pathways for students to connect with potential employers and future opportunities. It's a win-win.
For Community Services students, placements offer more than workplace experience.
They provide an opportunity to build confidence, develop professional skills and, in some cases, take the first step towards a meaningful career.
