What if your next photoshoot wasn’t something you scrolled past on social media, but something you helped create?
That’s exactly what hairdressing students at The Gordon experienced through The Hair Project, an industry-style photoshoot that gave them the chance to explore their creativity and see their work come to life in front of the camera.
From developing concepts and mood boards to styling hair, preparing models and collaborating as a creative team, students were involved in every stage of the project.
It’s the kind of experience that opens students’ eye to what a career in hairdressing can look like.
Many students start the course because they enjoy hair and beauty, but experiences like this help them discover the variety of pathways available across the industry.
From salon work and colour specialisation, to fashion, editorial and session styling, and even running their own business.
Projects like The Hair Project give Gordon students the space to experiment with new ideas, back themselves and build confidence in their skills.
Naomi Davies, Hairdressing teacher said:
It shows our students that hairdressing is about so much more than cutting hair. It’s creative and fast-paced. Full of opportunities. Seeing them try new ideas and create work they’re proud of is what it’s all about.

Whether you see yourself working in a salon, becoming a colour specialist, creating looks for fashion shoots or running your own business, hairdressing can take you in more directions than you might expect.
The Hair Project is just one example of how students put their skills into practice while they study.
