The Gordon showcases emerging Visual Arts talent

After a few challenging years, Geelong’s Imogene Denigan was searching for something to reignite her passion and purpose. She found it in The Gordon’s Visual Arts program, a creative journey that has transformed her life and inspired a new artistic direction.

“I needed to do something just for me,” Imogene said. “I’d been doing pottery for a while, but I wanted to expand my creativity. The Certificate IV at The Gordon gave me the structure and support to rekindle old skills and light up new ones.”

Through the program, Imogene and her classmates have explored a wide range of disciplines, from painting and printmaking to sculpture, jewellery making and digital media. The hands-on course encourages creative thinking and gives students a strong foundation in both artistic technique and professional practice.

One of the highlights for many students is the chance to showcase their work in The Gordon Gallery, a professional exhibition space that provides valuable real-world experience in curating and installing art.

The Gallery’s studio space is amazing, full of natural light and equipped with everything you could need, it’s so wonderful seeing my art in such a professional setting alongside other amazing pieces. Our teachers are incredibly knowledgeable and encouraging, which makes the learning experiences so unique. Studying on-campus at The Gordon really feels like a creative haven.”

Imogene’s talent and commitment have already earned her recognition beyond the classroom.

She was recently awarded the Studio Tibor, Artist in Residence opportunity, along with fellow student Manny Nichols, allowing them to further develop their practice in a professional studio setting.

Her work also received Highly Commended recognition from the Geelong Gallery, highlighting her growing presence in the local arts scene.

Looking ahead, Imogene is excited to take part in her upcoming artist residency and is exploring future opportunities, from establishing her own creative studio to studying Fine Art or Art Therapy.

Her story reflects the transformative power of art and the role The Gordon continues to play in nurturing the next generation of artists and creators.
