The Gordon’s electrical students will soon benefit from a new level of safety and innovation in their training, thanks to a grant from EnergyAustralia’s Community Grants Program.
The funding will enable The Gordon to purchase an Infinispark Alternate Supplies Board – a state-of-the-art training system that simulates real-world solar and battery energy setups without the risks associated with live voltage.
As the region’s leading provider of electrical training and licensing, The Gordon plays a vital role in preparing the local workforce for the growing renewable energy sector.
The new equipment will allow students to safely practice isolation procedures used when working on homes fitted with solar panels and batteries, an increasingly important skill as renewable energy use continues to rise across the community.
This equipment is a real game-changer for how we teach electrical safety, Until now, our students have had to learn on full voltage systems, which naturally carries some risk. The Infinispark board removes that danger while still giving students a realistic, hands-on experience. They can make mistakes safely, learn from them and build real confidence before ever working on a live installation.
Andy Heath, Portfolio Manager – Electrical at The Gordon.
The low-voltage training board will directly benefit around 1,900 students each year, ensuring graduates enter the workforce with the strong technical and safety skills needed to work safely and effectively in both traditional and renewable energy environments.
“Solar systems are now common in homes and businesses, and electricians must know how to safely isolate and maintain them,” Mr Heath said.
“Thanks to EnergyAustralia’s support, our students will be better equipped to protect themselves, their colleagues, and the wider community.”
EnergyAustralia’s Community Grants Program supports local initiatives that strengthen communities and create lasting positive impact. The Gordon’s new training technology exemplifies the power of collaboration between education and industry, helping build a safer, more skilled future workforce for our region.
If you’re interested in a career as an electrician, The Gordon offers several training pathways, from Pre-apprenticeship programs that help you get started in the trade, to Apprenticeship training that builds the skills employers are looking for.
